BARRISTERS

Interstate Practice

Interstate barristers who hold practising certificates issued in their home jurisdictions may practise in the ACT, as outlined in the Legal Profession Act 2006 (ACT). Such barristers are subject to this act.

Likewise, barristers who hold a practising certificate issued in the ACT may practise in other Australian states. Again, they are advised to:

  • Know the relevant legislation of other jurisdictions
  • Contact the relevant regulatory authorities in other jurisdictions to confirm current procedures for practising as an interstate practitioner.
